Elderly man killed after being hit by car while riding mobility scooter in Ipswich, Queensland

An elderly man has died after being hit by a car while riding a mobility scooter in Ipswich, Queensland.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Robertson Rd in Raceview just before 1pm on Thursday, with police blocking street entrances and redirecting traffic.

Initial investigations indicate a Toyota Rav4 was travelling along the road when it struck a mobility scooter near a pedestrian refuge island, Queensland Police said.

The 80-year-old man died at the scene.

“The other driver, an 86-year-old Eastern Heights woman, was taken to Ipswich Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” police said.

It is understood the drivers were not known to each other.

Police have encouraged any witnesses or anyone with relevant video to contact them.

Investigations are continuing.
