Little boy killed by falling tree in Shepparton amid Victorian wild weather


A little boy has died after being struck by a large tree branch during wild weather in Victoria.

The child was on a private property off Bells Rd in Gowangardie, Shepparton, when he was found critically injured just after 8am on Thursday.

The primary-school aged boy died at the scene.

Police believe the child was fatally injured by a falling tree branch.

The tragedy comes just two days after a man was killed when a branch fell on his property at Caringal.

“Emergency services provided medical assistance however the 44-year-old Bunyip man died at the scene,” Victoria Police said.

Two people also died after flash flooding hit a campground in Buchan on Boxing Day.

Police discovered the body of a man on Wednesday afternoon, a day after the body of a woman was found at a campground on Cave Rd.

The pair is believed to have been camping together.

Victoria’s State Emergency Service has responded to more than 1000 assistance requests over three days since Christmas.

Most of the calls came from Frankston, Shepparton, Bendigo and the state’s west.
