Police appeal for assistance after driver travels on wrong side of Hume freeway, rams into police car


A driver was caught travelling in the wrong lanes of a freeway in Victoria for several kilometres before then ramming into a police vehicle and fleeing earlier this week.

Police say the grey Toyota Hilux dual cab ute was spotted driving “erratically” on the wrong side of the Hume Fwy between Avenel and Euroa on January 3 between 8-8:30pm.

Its believed the car was travelling on the wrong side for about 25kms before police managed to intercept it.

When they attempted to speak with the driver, the person reversed into the police car and fled down the freeway.

No one was injured but police said the driver caused “significant damage” to the car.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the car driving dangerously in the lead up to the collision, or who may have dashcam footage, to come forward.
